Product Description
Autel MaxiSYS MS908CVII — Advanced Heavy-Duty Diagnostic Tablet for Commercial Vehicles
The MS908CVII is Autel's mid-tier heavy-duty diagnostic tablet — a 9.7-inch wireless touchscreen scanner that covers Class 1 through Class 9 commercial vehicles with full bi-directional capability, forced DPF regeneration, injector coding, and an Expert Mode that drops you directly into OE-specific system components. It sits between the original MS908CV and the top-of-line MS909CV in Autel's heavy-duty lineup, and for most commercial shop applications, it lands in the sweet spot.
If you run a fleet shop, a truck dealership, or a diesel service bay that handles everything from light-duty pickups through Class 8 semis, this is the tool to evaluate seriously. It handles the full range of heavy-duty diagnostic work without the additional cost of the MS909CV's ADAS and battery analysis features that most HD-focused shops will never use.
What the MS908CVII Does
Full-System Diagnostics — Class 1 Through Class 9
The MS908CVII performs comprehensive diagnostics across the entire commercial vehicle weight spectrum — from Class 1 light-duty trucks up through Class 9 heavy-duty semis (10,000 LBS to 33,000 LBS GVW). AutoScan sweeps all available modules automatically, identifying every system on the vehicle that will communicate. From there you can drill into any control module for detailed fault code analysis, live data, and bi-directional testing.
- Read and erase DTCs across all available vehicle systems
- View and graph live data streams from engine, transmission, braking, emissions, and body systems
- Freeze frame data capture for intermittent fault diagnosis
- All 10 OBDII test modes for light-duty emissions compliance
- AutoScan of all available modules — identify everything on the vehicle in one sweep
- Auto-VIN and Scan VIN for fast vehicle identification
Bi-Directional Active Tests
This is where the MS908CVII earns its price tag over cheaper code readers. Bi-directional control means you can command vehicle systems to activate or deactivate from the scan tool — not just read what the vehicle reports. Over 1,000 component activations are available with current software updates. This lets technicians verify component operation, isolate failures, and perform calibrations without guesswork.
- Forced DPF Regeneration — command the aftertreatment system to run a regen cycle on demand
- Injector cutout tests — disable individual injectors to isolate misfires and contribution issues
- Injector coding — program replacement injectors to match ECU calibration data
- EPB (electronic parking brake) service and release
- Oil service and maintenance light resets
- Brake bleed sequences
- Advanced coding and adaptations across OE-specific systems
Expert Mode — OE-Level System Access
Expert Mode is Autel's term for direct access to OE-specific diagnostic trees — bypassing the generic menu structure and giving technicians access to the same system-level parameters that factory scan tools expose. This is particularly valuable for engine, transmission, and advanced braking system diagnosis where the difference between a generic DTC and actual root-cause identification requires OE-depth data.
25 Service and Maintenance Functions
The MS908CVII includes 25 service reset and maintenance functions — an upgrade from the 19 available on the original MS908CV. Key functions include:
- Forced DPF Regeneration
- Oil Light Reset / Oil Life Monitor Reset
- Maintenance Service Light Reset
- Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) service
- Brake Bleed
- Diesel emissions system resets (Class 1–9)
- Additional service resets added with software updates
Supported Protocols
The MS908CVII covers the full range of heavy-duty and light-duty communication protocols:
- SAE J1939 — primary HD truck diagnostic protocol
- SAE J1708 — older HD protocol for legacy equipment
- CAN ISO 11898 (High-speed, Middle-speed, Low-speed, and Single-wire)
- ISO 9142-2, ISO 14230-2 (KWP2000), ISO 15765-4
- SAE-J1850 VPW, SAE-J1850 PWM
- K/L-Line, Flashing Code
- GM UART, UART Echo Byte Protocol
- Honda Diag-H Protocol, TP 2.0, TP 1.6
- Fault-Tolerant CAN
MaxiFlash Wireless VCI/J2534
The MS908CVII ships with the MaxiFlash wireless Bluetooth VCI — a J2534-compliant pass-through device that handles vehicle communication wirelessly. The technician can work from the tablet anywhere in the shop while the VCI stays plugged into the vehicle. The VCI connects via Bluetooth 5.0 and supports J2534 pass-through programming, which means you can use it with third-party OEM software for ECU reprogramming on select vehicles.
For the newest light-duty communication protocols, the MaxiSYS VCI200 is available as a separate purchase and expands LD coverage.
FCA (Stellantis) Secure Gateway access is supported with an Autoauth account — required for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles with SGW modules.

How the MS908CVII Compares to the MS908CV and MS909CV
Autel makes three primary heavy-duty MaxiSYS tablets. Here is how they stack up:
- MS908CV (original) — Android 4.4.2, quad-core 1.4 GHz, 64 GB / 2 GB RAM, 11,000 mAh, 19 service functions, MaxiFlash Elite VCI. The original HD tool, now discontinued. Competent but aging hardware.
- MS908CVII (this tool) — Android 10, octa-core 2.2/1.8 GHz, 128 GB / 4 GB RAM, 11,000 mAh, 25 service functions, MaxiFlash VCI. Modern hardware, current OS, full bi-directional HD coverage. The right choice for most commercial shops.
- MS909CV (top tier) — Same processor and RAM as the CVII, but with 15,000 mAh battery, ADAS static/dynamic calibration capability (Class 3–8), MaxiBAS battery analysis software with multimeter and AMP clamps, and J2534/RP1210 dual-protocol support. Built for shops that also do ADAS work on commercial vehicles.
If you do not need ADAS calibration or battery analysis on commercial vehicles, the MS908CVII covers everything the MS909CV covers diagnostically at a lower price point. If those additional capabilities matter for your shop, call us and we will explain the upgrade path.
